The problem

Why interpreting research remains difficult.

Research is easier to access than ever, but interpreting it properly remains difficult. Abstracts leave out important details, statistical significance is frequently misunderstood, individual studies are treated as definitive, and social-media summaries often communicate more certainty than the evidence supports.

01

Unsure which parts of a paper matter most

03

Depend on other people’s interpretations

02

Struggle with methods or statistical results

04

Find it difficult to translate evidence into practice

The outcome

By the end of the cohort, participants should be better able to:

  • Critically examine study methods and measurements
  • Interpret common statistical findings and uncertainty
  • Distinguish results from authors’ conclusions
  • Judge how an individual study fits within the wider evidence
  • Recognise overstatement, weak reasoning, and pseudoscientific claims
  • Apply and communicate evidence more responsibly
